United Way of Pickens County's free tax preparation service provides high-quality tax preparation services to individuals and families, to ensure hard-working people get every dollar they deserve.

You can do your own taxes yourself online, or sign up for an appointment to receive free, in-person assistance by an IRS certified and trained volunteer.

Get In-Person Help with Free File

Free in-person tax preparation assistance is available to Pickens County individuals and families with an annual household income of $60,000 or less. Our team of IRS trained and certified volunteers work with you to find all eligible deductions and tax credits.

Clients arrive to their appointment, complete intake forms and provide necessary documentation to the volunteer tax preparer. Once the return is complete, another certified volunteer will review the return for accuracy then the entire return will be reviewed with the client.

With direct deposit, refunds typically arrive within 7–21 days when filed electronically.

Do-It-Yourself with MyFreeTaxes.com

United Way’s MyFreeTaxes is the only free, national, online tax filing program offered by a nonprofit. It is completely free for federal and state returns, optimized for all devices (desktop, tablet or mobile) and easy to use — most filers complete their taxes in less than an hour.
