EASLEY, SC- Have a tax problem you haven’t been able to resolve with the IRS? United Way of Pickens County is teaming up with Taxpayer Advocate Services to host a Tax Problem Solving Day on June 20, 9:30 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. at the Captain Kimberly Hampton Memorial Library, 304 Biltmore Rd. in Easley.
The Taxpayer Advocate Service (TAS) is an independent organization within the IRS. TAS helps taxpayers resolve tax problems, recommends changes to prevent future tax problems, and protects taxpayer rights. TAS’s services are free for taxpayers who are experiencing a financial hardship or having financial difficulties because of a tax problem; trying, but haven't been able to resolve an IRS tax problem; or believing an IRS system or procedure isn't working.
The Taxpayer Advocate Service will be available on June 20 to assist taxpayers with unresolved IRS tax
problems. Their goal is to provide personalized, step-by-step guidance. If your tax problem meets TAS criteria, a Case Advocate will be assigned to work directly with you.
Additional partners in Problem Solving Day include the South Carolina Legal Services Low Income Taxpayer Clinic which represents low-income individuals in disputes with the IRS including audits, appeals, collection matters, and federal tax litigation.
Trained VITA (Free File) volunteers will also be on hand to prepare and e-file tax returns for free for those with a household income of $60,000 or less.
