Learn about Tax Season Volunteer Opportunities

October 30, 2024

Community members are invited to attend an upcoming information session to learn more about tax season volunteer opportunities through Free File.

Free File is an IRS VITA (Volunteer Income Tax Assistance) program which serves individuals and families in Pickens County with an annual household income of $60,000 or less. This program relies on community volunteers who receive IRS training and certification to serve as tax preparers, intake coordinators, interpreters and more.

In a typical tax season, roughly 60 volunteers prepare over 1,500 tax returns for Pickens County individuals and families with an average income of approximately $20,000.

United Way of Pickens County will host four volunteer information sessions in November. Interested community members are encouraged to bring their lunch and learn about the various Free File volunteer opportunities at one of the following sessions:

Monday, November 4, 12:15-12:45 p.m. at the Captain Kimberly Hampton Memorial Library in Easley
Wednesday, November 6, 12:15-12:45 p.m. at the Sarlin Library in Liberty
Thursday, November 21, 12:15-12:45 p.m. at the Village Library in Pickens
